Trailer for ‘Uncle Boonmee’ Certainly Piques the Interest

Strand Releasing will release Apichatpong’s Weerasethakul’s Cannes Palme d’Or-winning film Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives on March 2 and they have just debuted the trailer for the ghost story that I’ve heard penty of things about. Perhaps the strangest story I heard was that a woman makes love to a catfish. I wasn’t sure if they were pulling my leg, but sure enough the trailer even gives that portion of the story away. However, it’s about much more than that. Here’s the official synopsis:

Suffering from acute kidney failure, Uncle Boonmee (Thanapat Saisaymar) has chosen to spend his final days surrounded by his loved ones in the countryside. Surprisingly, the ghost of his deceased wife appears to care for him, and his long lost son returns home in a non-human form. Contemplating the reasons for his illness, Boonmee treks through the jungle with his family to a mysterious hilltop cave — the birthplace of his first life…

I unfortunately missed the screening at Cannes last year, opting instead to see Of Gods and Men as my schedule did not allow me to see both, but this trailer is certainly enough for me to want to see what the fuss is about.

You can check out the trailer directly below and if you’re interested, I have a gallery of four images from the film right here.
