Possible ‘Bang Bang’ Reunion for ‘Iron Man 3’

These “so-and-so may direct” stories annoy me, but this one piqued my interest as Heat Vision reports Shane Black is in contention to write and direct Iron Man 3 as Jon Favreau has already announced he won’t be returning to finish off the trilogy.

As I’m sure you remember, Black directed Iron Man title star Robert Downey Jr. in the vastly under-appreciated Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang back in 2005 and it carries all the darkly comic wit we’ve come to enjoy from Downey’s performances as of late. Black also has that Lethal Weapon writing credit in his favor showing he knows how to pen an action-based story and mix in those comic touches.

Heat Vision’s story is merely speculation and doesn’t offer any kind of new information other than saying Black is in contention with other, unnamed directors.

Plot details on the film remain unknown other than a speculative comment from Favreau a while back saying, “Iron Man 3 is going to be a sequel or continuation of Thor, Hulk, Captain America and Avengers… This whole world… I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.”

Iron Man 3 will be released by Disney (most likely the Touchstone banner) with a release date currently set for May 3, 2013.
