Trailer for David Schwimmer’s Teen Rape Feature ‘Trust’

The trailer and poster for ex-“Friends” star-turned-director David Schwimmer’s new film, Trust, has arrived and from what I’ve heard the film is good, but rather intense. The story centers on a teenage girl who falls prey to a 40-year-old online sexual predator and has already earned an R rating for disturbing material involving the rape of a teen, language, sexual content and some violence. Yikes, but at least the film’s official Facebook page appears to be trying to offer help regarding online safety.

The film stars an impressive cast including Clive Owen, Catherine Keener and Viola Davis, but I hear the performance by newcomer Liana Liberato is the one to watch out for. I haven’t read the reviews in hopes of going in cold, but it will be interesting to see just what kind of film we’re looking at here.

Is this the film to launch the career of a new young actress? Remember, Hard Candy pretty much put Ellen Page on the map before people caught on after her performance in Juno. Another possibility is this is the film that gets Schwimmer’s long sought after directorial career on track after the unsuccessful results of Run, Fatboy, Run three years ago.

Trust hits theaters on April 1 from Millennium Entertainment. I have no idea how wide it will be going, but my guess would be not very, and I can’t seem to find city specific dates anywhere.
