‘Superman’s Lois Lane Shortlist Includes McAdams, Biel, Wilde and More

Courtesy of The Playlist, we can now bring you Warner Bros.’ latest superhero shortlist as reported ’round the web. Today we’re looking at the myriad of women supposedly up for the role of Lois Lane alongside Henry Cavill’s Clark Kent in Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man of Steel. Malin Akerman (Watchmen), Dianna Agron (“Glee”), Jessica Biel, Rachel McAdams and Olivia Wilde have all reportedly read or been asked to read for the part.

The names of Mila Kunis, Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and Kristen Bell (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) have been thrown around by a number of sites as well, while Kristen Stewart has reportedly declined an opportunity to read for the part, and perhaps smartly so. She apparently is opting to focus on more low-key indie fare while seeking a reprieve from the media attention the Twilight series has given her.

Anne Hathaway was once considered the front-runner for the part, but her casting as Selena Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises put an end to all of that. Jessica Biel is now considered the front-runner in some circles, with one source saying “don’t be surprised if the trades reveal that (she) has gotten the nod in a week’s time.”

Biel would make sense since I expect Warner Bros would load up on big names given that their star isn’t exactly a household name, with Cavill’s biggest role to date coming on the Showtime series “The Tudors.” McAdams also seems like a good fit given that criteria. Lane was most recently portrayed by Kate Bosworth in 2006’s Superman Returns.

In related news, Cinematical has been hearing that Cavill may never actually appear in the iconic suit at all, as Superman may be an all-CGI creation — much like that of Ryan Reynolds in Green Lantern. The pixelated Superman they’re toying with “looks sorta like Christopher Reeve.” Whatever that’s supposed to mean, it just doesn’t sound like a good idea to me.
