Trailer for Canada’s Best Foreign Language Nominee ‘Incendies’

I have heard nothing but good things about Denis Villeneuve’s Incendies and I’m still kicking myself for not having caught it at the Toronto International Film Festival last year. The film has since been nominated for the Best Foreign Language Oscar and Sony Pictures Classics has just set an April 22 release for the film in New York and Los Angeles with expansion expected over the weeks following.

The film is centered on twins Simon and Jeanne as they embark on a journey to the Middle East following the death of their mother’s death. Over the course of the trek they learn details of their mother’s past long hidden, all of which culminates in a shocking revelation. The film is based on the play by Wajdi Mouawad and directed by Genie and Jutra award-winner Denis Villeneuve (Polytechnique).

Incendies will compete against Mexico’s Biutiful, Dogtooth from Greece, Susanne Bier’s In a Better World (Denmark) and Rachid Bouchareb’s Hors la Loi (Algeria) for the Best Foreign Language Oscar on February 27. You can check out the trailer directly below.
