Will Smith Looks to Remake ‘Annie,’ ‘Tron 3’ Teaser Talk and Captain America Drops ‘America’

Will Smith still seems far more concerned with pimping out his own kids than getting himself back atop the box-office charts, though the upcoming Men in Black III is a rather easy way for him to accomplish both at the same time. Variety reports his next project could be a remake of the musical Annie, starring his hair-whipping daughter Willow. Big Willie would produce, and Jay-Z is in talks to collaborate on the music. After all, J-Hova already dipped into the hard knocked life once already.

HBO has started development on a movie about controversial WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Deadline reports the source material could include Raffi Khatchadourian’s June 7, 2010, New Yorker article, which offered an in-depth look at Assange as he and his operatives prepared to leak a 38 minute classified video filmed from inside the cockpit of a U.S. Army Apache Helicopter. Assange will also be the subject of a documentary from Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney (Taxi From the Dark Side), who has just struck a deal with Universal Pictures for the project.

Brad mentioned this yesterday in the Box-Office Wrap-Up, but Ain’t it Cool News has news on what looks like a Tron 3 teaser which will appear as an extra on the TRON: Legacy DVD and Blu-ray. Someone who worked on the shoot contacted the site and said at least three scenes were filmed for the teaser.

“Market research results” have revealed that a movie with “America” in the title isn’t going to sell in South Korea, Russia and Ukraine, so Captain America: The First Avenger will be truncated to simply The First Avenger in those markets. Marvel actually expected to change the title in several more markets, but Captain America’s brand awareness proved strong enough in other foreign countries.

Lastly, Kiefer Sutherland chatted with Extra‘s AJ Calloway and confirmed that the 24 movie is scheduled to start shooting in eight months. As someone who hasn’t seen a minute of the show, I have to wonder if this could be any good. Any thoughts from Jack Bauer’s followers?
