2011 Golden Globe Award Winners: ‘The Social Network’ Leads the Way With Four Awards

Well, it was quite a night and to be honest I was impressed with the show’s ability to remain mildly entertaining even though we all pretty much wrote off the legitimacy of many of the nominees, particularly in the Comedy/Musical categories. If you missed any and/or all of the show I did a play-by-play live-blog of it right here and I never skipped a beat.

It didn’t take long for Ricky Gervais to get into the swing of things, turning his opening monologue and any introductory moment he had to roast the celebs rather than remain in the background, but that’s what he was hired to do. If you want to remain interesting when you nominate The Tourist for three Golden Globes then you need to light a fire somewhere.

While the night pretty much declared itself as more of a reason for celebs to laugh, eat and drink together there were a few awards handed out and of those awards The Social Network was the big winner taking home Best Picture (Drama), Best Director (David Fincher), Best Screenplay (Aaron Sorkin) and Best Score (Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross).

The Fighter and The Kids are All Right were both awarded with two Globes as The FIghter took home both Supporting Globes (Christian Bale and Melissa Leo) and The Kids are All Right won for Best Picture (Musical/Comedy) and Annette Bening took home Best Actress (Musical/Comedy).

From an awards perspective there wasn’t a single surprise unless you count the win for In a Better World, which I was particularly happy to see, but I expected a more known or at least studio released feature would take home the Foreign Language award.

I’ve included the complete list of film winners directly below and for the television winners you can find those right here. Also, I’ve added 40 images from the show to the gallery right here, so give those a look once you have a chance.

I will be writing more about the Globe results tomorrow with a new version of just what it means to win a Golden Globe when it comes to the Oscar race as well as updating my Oscar predictions. Because if you’ve had a look at my current predictions you’ll surely notice a few of them are dramatically out of date.
