Wahlberg Makes His Feelings on ‘The Happening’ Known

I don’t really know what to think about this quote from Mark Wahlberg talking about M Night Shyamalan’s The Happening, originating out of the press conference for his upcoming film The Fighter. First I’ll give you the quote (via Movieline) and then a thought or two:

I was such a huge fan of [Amy Adams]. We’d actually had the luxury of having lunch before to talk about another movie, and it was a bad movie that I did. She dodged the bullet. I don’t want to tell you what movie… All right, The Happening with M. Night Shyamalan. It is was it is. F*cking trees, man, the plants. F*ck it. You can’t blame me for wanting to try to play a science teacher. You know? I wasn’t playing a cop or a crook.

I can understand thinking a film you did wasn’t good, but to throw the film under the bus after you agreed to star in the film seems wrong. Of course, I’m operating on the assumption Wahlberg read the script before agreeing to star in the film, and if so, wouldn’t he have been saying these same things after reading it?

Also, what’s with the “You can’t blame me for wanting to try to play a science teacher” line? Did he take on the role so he could play a science teacher? Was that a career dream of his?
