Grevioux & Tatopoulos Reteam for I, Frankenstein

Screenwriter and actor Kevin Grevioux, who co-created the “Underworld” franchise, will be reteaming with Patrick Tatopoulos, director of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, for a new project based on Grevioux’s upcoming Darkstorm Comics series I, Frankenstein.

Produced by Robert Sanchez and Chris Patton for Death Ray Films, the comic book and movie is a modernization of the Frankenstein mythos with the monster encountering other famous movie monsters in presumably violent ways.

The project’s associate producer and co-developer might be a familiar name, being that it’s ShockTillYouDrop‘s own managing editor Ryan Rotten!

Death Ray Films, director Patrick Tatopoulos, and Underworld Co-creator Kevin Grevioux have teamed up to develop I, Frankenstein for the big screen.

I, Frankenstein, an upcoming comic book series from Darkstorm Comics set for release later this year, brings back many beloved classic monsters including Frankenstein’s Monster, the Hunchback of Notre Dame, the Invisible Man, Dracula, Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde plus many more, in a re-imagined contemporary setting.

Creature effects guru turned director Patrick Tatopoulos (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans) will helm the feature.

“I don’t know of any other projects past or present that gives you the chance, in a single movie, to re-invent the ‘MOST CULT CREATURES OF ALL TIME’. All of this in a very unique, dark and stylistic world. I would never pass on such an opportunity,” says Tatopoulos.

Written and Created by Kevin Grevioux (Underworld Franchise, ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction), the series is a fresh and creative take on the Frankenstein mythos.

Grevioux, who co-created the very successful Underworld franchise for Lakeshore Entertainment that has brought in over $285 million in worldwide box office receipts, will pen the screenplay and produce.

“Frankenstein has always been one of my favorite monsters. Putting him together in an environment with other creatures of lore that I grew up watching provides me with a unique opportunity to do my own take on them,” says Grevioux.

Robert Sanchez and Chris Patton will produce and Ryan Turek will co-develop and associate produce for the Death Ray Films label.

Producer Robert Sanchez says, “This is not really a retelling of the classic stories as much as it is putting the most beloved classic monsters into a new setting called Darkhaven, a contemporary Gotham-like metropolis with an underworld that hides criminals and monsters alike.”

Patton jumped at the challenge, “This is not a campy make over, the horror and suspense that Kevin has built into this new concept is perfect for today’s audience. Over the past few decades the studios haven’t given these monsters the respect that they deserve. This film will remind you why these childhood frights will always reign as the king of nightmares.”

“I, Frankenstein is a Raymond Chandler-esque monster mash where the rogues don’t pack pistols, they’ve got claws and fangs,” Ryan Turek enthuses. “This is one of those films where the possibilities are endless.”

Producers Sanchez and Patton are currently in pre-production on the comedy/horror film War Monkeys and are developing the Dark Horse comic book El Zombo along with Maya Entertainment, Kevin Munroe (TMNT, Dead of Night) is writing and directing.

Patrick Tatopoulos is repped by Nick Reed at ICM. A visual effects and creature effects maestro, Tatopoulos has worked on the Underworld franchise, Stargate, I, Robot, I Am Legend and Live Free or Die Hard to name a few.

Kevin Grevioux is repped by Scott Agostoni at William Morris Agency.
