Some new release dates have just been recently announced via a press release sent over from Focus Features and a report at Heat Vision.
Before I detail some of the battles that will ensue with these new dates (some of which are also old), let me just give you the rundown first.
WARNER BROS:
- Red Riding Hood – April 22, 2011
- The Hangover 2 – May 26 , 2011
- Green Lantern – June 17, 2011
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II – July 15, 2011
- Journey to the Center of the Earth 2 – September 23, 2011
- Happy Feet 2 – November 18, 2011
- New Year’s Eve – December 9, 2011
- Sherlock Holmes 2 – December 16, 2011
FOCUS FEATURES
- The Eagle of the Ninth – February 25, 2011
- Jane Eyre – March 11, 2011
- Hanna – April 8, 2011
- One Day – Third quarter of 2011
These release dates means Sherlock Holmes 2 will be going up against Paramount’s Mission: Impossible IV directed by Brad Bird. Happy Feet 2 will open the same weekend as Summit’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.
Journey to the Center of the Earth 2 will offer counter-programming against Screen Gems’ Underworld 3D. Warner’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II will open two weeks after Transformers 3 and one week before The First Avenger: Captain America.
Green Lantern opens two weeks after Fox’s X-Men: First Class and one week before Rise of the Apes. The Hangover 2 arrives six days after the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
That battle between Sherlock 2 and M:I 4 is an interesting one and I have to assume one of them will budge by at least a week. Don’tcha think?
