Bayona Decides on ‘The Impossible’ as His ‘Orphanage’ Follow-up With Watts and McGregor

When rumors had it, and even a Untitled Spider-Man Reboot.

However, while Webb has that feature, Bayona has a rather large film on his hands now as well with The Impossible, an action-thriller-drama Summit Entertainment just acquired starring Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor, marking the second time the duo has appeared on screen together following 2005’s disappointing dramatic mystery Stay directed by Marc Forster.

Not much is known about The Impossible other than describing it as based on a true story that took place during the 2004 tsunami that hit the coast of Thailand. The Playlist did stumble upon a Spanish story reporting on the film in which it says Bayona will attempt to recreate the Indian Ocean tsunami “through a script with hints of horror and mystery and large doses of science fiction.”

The script was written by Sergio G. Sanchez, who also wrote Bayona’s The Orphanage. Production is set to begin in August in Alicante, Spain before moving to Thailand in October.

For those of you that have never seen The Orphanage, please do what you can to see it before it gets remade.
