Jolie Bails on ‘Wanted 2’ for Cuaron’s ‘Gravity’

This is an interesting development considering it Vulture reports Jolie has pulled out of Wanted 2, the planned Timur Bekmambetov sequel, and instead of recasting the role Universal has pulled the plug altogether.

Instead, Jolie is reportedly going to star in the space thriller Gravity for Children of Men director Alfonso Cuaron. Cuaron penned the script with his son Jonas, which would see Jolie as the sole surviving human member of a space mission, desperately trying to return home to Earth and her daughter.

Ironically, Gravity was originally a Universal property before the sent it into turnaround, which is when Warner Bros. picked it up. Naturally, as pointed out by Claude Brodesser-Akner at Vulture, the plot is strangely similar to that of Moon and perhaps based on the buzz of that film, the capable hands of Cuaron and the bankability of Jolie is what has made the project something worth doing whereas Universal is said to seen it as an “artistically challenging project.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows producer David Heyman and Legendary Pictures are shepherding the pic for Warners.
