The Washington D.C. Film Critics Association list of winners for 2009 have been announced and the flood gates are about to open on end of year critics lists. Among the surprises, Christoph Waltz gets his first post season kudos for Inglourious Basterds, a performance I watched once again over the weekend and would have no problem seeing him take home the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor even though I still suspect the Academy won’t go that direction. Basterds also won for Original Screenplay.
I’m not sure if it’s a surprise or not, but Kathryn Bigelow won Best Director for The Hurt Locker. I currently have her listed as my second place finisher in that category for the Oscar in my predictions, right behind Jason Reitman for Up in the Air, the film that took hom D.C.’s Best Film, Actor and Adapted Screenplay while The Hurt Locker was also recognized as Best Ensemble Cast.
