‘Rambo 5’ and ‘Bad Boys 3’ are In the Works

I guess I should have held off writing about Halloween 3D earlier as I could have saved it for tonight for a proper sequel roundup as two more found their way into the trades.

First off we have Variety‘s report saying Nu Image/Millennium Films has greenlit Rambo 5, the franchise’s fifth installment, with Sylvester Stallone starring and directing, repeating his duties from 2008’s Rambo. The storyline will revolve around Rambo fighting his way through human traffickers and drug lords to rescue a young girl abducted near the U.S.-Mexico border. Production will start in the spring.

This is no real surprise as it was already talked about back in September 2008 following Rambo‘s $113 million worldwide box-office take on a $50 million budget. While I personally enjoyed the hell out of Stallone’s return to the character in 2008, it only scored a 37% at RottenTomtoes.

The first two films, released in 1995 and 2003, earned $414,746,580 worldwide and featured Smith and Lawrence as Miami detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett as they run around Miami destroying everything in sight all to slow motion and helicopters. While it sounds like I am making fun, I’m not, I love both Bad Boys films… Yes, even the second one… No shame.

What are the chances of getting everyone back in place? THR’s Borys Kit writes saying all parties have expressed a willingness to return if a story can be hammered out, but one potential hurdle would be the price to make that happen.
