Variety reports the upcoming Fox comedy Date Night starring Steve Carell and Tina Fey just upped the actor ante big time with news Mark Wahlberg, James Franco, Leighton Meester, Common, Taraji P. Henson and Kristen Wiig have all joined the cast. Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) is directing the film which revolves around a married couple (Fey and Carell) who find themselves in harm’s way after their routine date night goes horribly awry.

Word on the casting breakdown goes as follows:

  • Mark Wahlberg: A successful and crazily buff securities expert who flirts with Fey’s character.
  • James Franco: A not-too-bright conman and petty criminal.
  • Leighton Meester: The couple’s babysitter.
  • Taraji P. Henson: The one good cop who believes the couple is in danger.
  • Common: A villain.
  • Kristen Wiig: Fey’s character’s best friend.

Levy tells Variety the goal of populating all the supporting roles “with formidable actors.”

“And people just kept saying yes,” added Levy. “I think people just really wanted to work with Tina and Steve.”

Josh Klausner (Shrek the Fourth) penned the script.
