UPDATED: Jackie Earle Haley Likely to Play Freddy Krueger in ‘Nightmare’ Remake

UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter just confirmed this story with news the film starts lensing May 5 in Chicago.

Bloody Disgusting is reporting Jackie Earle Haley is in final talks to play Freddy Krueger in the A Nightmare on Elm Street remake for New Line Cinema. This report confirms early chatter out of Latino Review back in February.

BD seems confident Haley, who recently played Rorschach in WB’s Watchmen, will land the role for director Samuel Bayer. The remake/reboot will reintroduce the 1984 horror classic directed by Wes Craven and aims to keep the high school setting and delve deeper in the psychology of nightmares and Freddy Krueger himself.

Bloody Disgusting is also reporting Kyle Gallner (Haunting In Connecticut) is in final talks to play Quentin, the character played by Johnny Depp in the original.

The film is set for an April 16, 2010 release.

For those that haven’t seen it yet, Latino Review also did a script review of the horror reboot back in late March. You can check that out directly below.
