Catherine Hardwicke is ready to give everyone another chance to say how great she is even though Thirteen is her only agreed upon quality feature as The Hollywood Reporter brings word she will be directing Maximum Ride for Columbia Pictures based on a five-volume series of stories by James Patterson.
The story chronicles six teens, known as the Flock, who are genetically altered so that they are part human and part bird. Learning to fly, they escape the laboratory where they have been housed and are pursued by a pack of creatures called the Erasers that are part human and part wolf.
Don Payne, who co-wrote Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and My Super Ex-Girlfriend, will bring his excellent track record to this project and give this script a go.
Hardwicke most recently directed the fangirl-fav Twilight to a critical drumming as part of a series of a three films that didn’t exactly hit home with critics including The Nativity Story and Lords of Dogtown. Her directorial debut Thirteen remains her lone critical achievement which she co-wrote with Nikki Reed.
