USA Today posted a brief quote from Lil Kim, who is portrayed by Naturi Naughton in Fox Searchlight’s upcoming Notorious B.I.G. biopic Notorious, saying, “The film studio and producers involved were more concerned about painting me as a ‘character’ to create a more interesting storyline instead of a person with talent, self-respect and who was able to achieve her own career success through hard work.”
Lil’ Kim (real name is Kimberly Denise Jones) certainly is a “character” in the film which I saw just yesterday and with my full review coming on Thursday I can say it isn’t that bad and Biggie fans are sure to enjoy it. This also isn’t the first time the convicted criminal has spoken out against the film and there is even a rumor she plans on making her own autobiographical film in the future. Kim was found guilty of conspiracy and perjury for lying to a grand jury back in March of 2005.
As for the portrayal, B.I.G.’s mother Voletta Wallace said, “This is not a Lil Kim movie. … If she’s disappointed and upset, that is her problem.”
The film opens on Friday, here is the trailer again if you haven’t seen it yet. Oh, and don’t watch any of the clips online because they are truly awful out of the context of the film.
