Jack Black Bails On Man-Witch: Todd Phillips’ supernatural comedy, Man-Witch, just lost its star as Jack Black. Rumor has it the split came from Black’s camp, which had questions about Phillips’ commitment to direct the picture ahead of Hangover, another comedy said to be close to the helmer’s heart. That project is also set up at Warners. Man-Witch is centered on a man who discovers he’s a witch and then heads off to teach at a female witch school. [THR]

Talk of I Dream of Jeannie Adaptation: Way back in 2004 it was rumored that Lindsay Lohan would star in a feature film adaptation of “I Dream of Jeannie” for Gurinder Chada. Since then… nada. However, there is new life in the idea as Sid Ganis and his Out of the Blue Entertainment have brought on Mulan scribe Rita Hsiao to rewrite the script for the big-screen adaptation of the 1960s series. Hsiao’s recent resume includes touching up Enchanted and 13 Going On 30. Ganis told THR, “This is such a beloved and iconic character that it has to be told the right way,” he said. “You have a loyalty to the character that has to exist, and sometimes it takes time to get there.” [THR]
Summit Sees “Red”: Summit Entertainment is entering the comic book adaptation business, picking up the movie rights to WildStorm/DC Comics’ “Red.” Brothers Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber are writing the actioner based on the three-issue comic series, published in 2003, telling the story of a former black-ops CIA agent now living a quiet life in retirement until the day a high-tech assassin shows up intent on killing him. With his secret identity compromised and his love interest in danger, the man must reassemble his old team to figure out who is out to get them. The book was written by Warren Ellis, whose comic “Ocean” is set up at Warner Bros., and illustrated by Cully Hamner. [THR]
