If Grace Kelly is my number one, Elizabeth Taylor (in her prime) is my number two. Sure, Liz has gone so far downhill since she was the Liz we saw in such films as Giant, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Cleopatra, but that doesn’t mean we can’t remember her for what she was. Teaming up with Paul Newman makes them the #1 movie couple of all-time and I hope I don’t get a lot of grief for the placement.
Newman was an absolute pimp in his heyday and while most people nowadays may think of him as the old man on the side of spaghetti sauce and salad dressing jars he truly had the ladies creaming when he hit the scene in films such as The Hustler and especially Cool Hand Luke. Teaming up with Elizabeth Taylor in 1958 makes the two of them the easy choice for me.
This list was truly hard for me to make so I felt I really should include an Honorable Mention to let you know some of the names that were sitting on the outside looking in. One that pained me to leave it out was Kerry Washington and Jamie Foxx from Ray, only because Kerry Washington is one of the hottest actresses out there right now, but Foxx as Ray Charles I thought made it a tough add. Too bad Washington is underused because on top of being gorgeous I also think she is talented.
Based on the Honorable Mention alone I think you can see just how different this top ten could have been.
- Kerry Washington and Jamie Foxx in Ray
- Charlize Theron and Keanu Reeves in The Devil’s Advocate
- Ashley Judd and Matthew McConaughey in A Time to Kill
- Richard Gere and Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman
