In an effort to make this article worth your time I will give you my two cents on the Saw franchise, actually it is six cents if you count each word as one cent… Here goes: It died with the first one.
The first Saw was gimmicky, it was new and fresh, now it is all a rehash and an attempt to gross us out rather than tease our brains. Original screenwriter and director duo Leigh Whannell and James Wan did right by not returning and while Dead Silence wasn’t a perfect horror movie it at least had a couple of the tricky elements that made the first Saw intriguing, elements the first film needed considering the terrible acting by Cary Elwes.
Now, here we are in 2007, the first film was released in 2004 and we are coming up on our fourth film in the franchise and Bloody-Disgusting brings news that they know the director of Saw V and Saw VI. Who is it you ask? Well, you must not have read the headline too closely because it is David Hackl, whom BD tells us was the production designer on Saw II, Saw III and Saw IV and second unit director on Saw II and Saw IV.
Hopefully they do something to spice these films up because I can’t watch the bad acting in the first one anymore, Saw II was decent the first time around and Saw III was absolutely terrible. How will the fourth one turn out? We will have to wait until October 26 to find out.
