It is only fitting that THE archtypal superhero makes it to number one with er, a speeding bullet. Superman tried, but just couldn’t save Lois Lane this time. I remember watching this as a kid with tears in my eyes. Lois is dead. Superman almost can’t even believe it. Then something happened, something so powerful, the greatest cheat in movie history… it gives me chills just to write about it. Even though his father forbids him not to do it … Superman does the unthinkable.
Superman screams in pain. It’s a powerful scream too, the kind felt throughout the galaxy, and then he starts flying. I don’t know if there’s such a thing as “flying hard” but if there is, this is it. He flies around Earth, forcing out all the anger and pain in his heart. Then he flies faster … and faster! Soon the entire world spins the other way. Superman reverses time!
He gives himself just enough time to set things right. He flies into the earth’s crust and more or less, prevents the would-be catostrophic damage caused by the quake. All is well in the world. Just another day in the life of Superman, the greatest hero of them all. Just try and top that. 30 years later, and still no one has.
