Box-Office Wrap-Up: July 6 – June 8

I make predicting look good. Effortless, accurate, sturdy – these are the buzzwords of my reign. But enough about me, let’s get into the weekend wrap-up.
#1 movie predicted correctly: Ten Weeks In A Row
Being less than $5m off here works for me. Predictions were all over the place on this on. Transformers stands at $152m already and the sequel is 100% inevitable. Trust me.
Result: $67.6 million (My rank: #1, $4.5m off)
To Pixar’s credit, at least they don’t do sequels (in general). Perhaps I’ve been too hard on this little animation house. Sorry guys. Let’s make up.
Result: $29.0 million (My rank: #2, $3.4m off)
Now that’s a beautiful number. As a production budget of $110m was released, and it’s only at $84m I am a little worried about the future of this franchise. They will bank on the unrated DVD though.
Result: $17.4 million (My rank: #3, $.3m off)
I’m still way under a ten percent variance for the week and it only gets easier as the numbers get smaller. People wanted to see License to Wed about as much as I figured… so not too much. Adios Robin Williams!
Result: $10.4 million (My rank: #4, $.2m off)
The reason I had this one lower is because I hate it.
Result: $8.1 million (My rank: #5, $1.1m off)
6. 1408
It officially made its production budget back this weekend, so the rest is pure profit. The lesson this summer was that it paid to not be an expensive sequel (Knocked Up, Transformers).
Result: $7.1 million (My rank: #6, $1.4m off)
Here we have a movie that is plus $45m on profit and counting. I hate to say it, but that proves I was right for liking it. Everyone else who didn’t was wrong.
Result: $5.2 million (My rank: #8, $1.7m off)
So close to the bingo (nerdy name I created for exact dollar amount, exact top ten slot). I will say that I have no idea who the half million people were who said “You know what? It’s time to see F4.” Seriously, if these were my friends I would punch them. Unless their thing is empty movie theaters. Then I could see it.
Result: $4.2 million (My rank: #7, $.1m off)
You have to admit that Michael Moore has gotten crazy amounts of media coverage for a movie that basically no one will see.
Result: $3.7 million (My rank: #10, $.9m off)
Has anyone else seen the MTV commercials for Super Sweet 16 the movie? Man, MTV has lost anything resembling street cred or dignity.
Result: $3.2 million (My rank: #9, Dead On)
