Schmidt Directing Stephen King’s ‘Insomnia’

“Dreamcatcher” was pretty good as a book, decent I would say, but as a movie it just didn’t work and I really think “Insomnia” is another one that will follow along the same lines as it is just a bit too out there and with imagery that you can really only conjure up in your head. I mean, little bald guys running around with scissors cutting people’s auras and they end up dying? With King’s words the images work slightly, but on the big screen this is something that just won’t play.

Dread Central, however, despite my first paragraph, have announced that, despite my feelings, Wrong Turn director Rob Schmidt of all people is set to direct an adaptation, despite the fact that Wrong Turn sucked. Schmidt is quoted by the site saying, “I’m doing the film mainly because King was such a big fan of Wrong Turn!”

Yeah right, or perhaps because you have nothing else to do.

I gotta say, I think this is a really bad idea on so many levels. “Insomnia” is not the King story to be brought to life, especially with this guy at the helm. Even if he has Stan Winston doing the effects.
