Winner winner, pasta with pesto dinner. It’s been two months since I missed the top spot but I take no joy in this. I keep missing that number by too many dollars and that’s just not good enough. Back to the Oracle gym.
#1 movie predicted correctly: Eight Weeks In A Row
At least I wasn’t double digits off. That’s bright side thinking. It’s good that this movie got crushed though, that’s a hopeful sign for our children. Oh, by the way, this made less than half of what Bruce Almighty did. Go team!
Result: $32.1 million (My rank: #1, $9.9m off)
2. 1408
Wow, nice opening guys. This was an expertly placed movie. It also breaks the Vacancy rule, that stars don’t matter. Maybe they do matter, or maybe this was considered a thriller instead of a horror. Whatever the case, again, good game.
Result: $20.17 million (My rank: #3, $5.1m off)
Wow, this got murdered. In a giant way. Word of mouth must have been just nasty business. Another good result for those of us desiring good big budget movies.
Result: $20.15 million (My rank: #2, $6.7m off)
There ya go, solid predicting from this guy. And the 42 percent slack from last weekend isn’t shabby. It’s almost like the movies I love are doing well and the ones I hate are suffering. Finally, I rule the universe.
Result: $11.3 million (My rank: #4, $1.0m off)
5. Knocked Up
This movie is nothing but strong. Nothing but strength flows from its loins. We all must bow to the box office sturdiness of Knocked Up. Get on it.
Result: $10.6 million (My rank: #5, $3.0m off)
What about a Pirates TV show? You telling me you wouldn’t tune in every week to see some pirates? Maybe not these characters exactly, but I don’t think there’s a historical fiction show on the air right now. Why do I have to come up with all the good ideas?
Result: $7.2 million (My rank: #6, $1.3m off)
7. Surf’s Up
Ratatouille has a lot in common with this one though I can’t go into why. Union rules you see, I want to make sure I get that reviewer pension.
Result: $6.7 million (My rank: #8, $2.2m off)
I’m trying to watch Studio 60 while typing this. It’s not going well. Plus I think I’m on the final episodes of the show, so I guess score one for the bad guys there.
Result: $5.7 million (My rank: #9, $1.2m off)
9. Nancy Drew
At $16.1m I don’t think there is much to talk about. I mean, this one will be forgotten in milliseconds.
Result: $4.5 million (My rank: #10, $1.4m off)
10. A Mighty Heart
It wasn’t so much that I was right about no one wanting to see this, no one did, it was more that people wanted to see the above films just a tad bit more. Tads make or break you in this business.
Result: $4.0 million (My rank: #7, $1.1m off)
