Okay, so the first episode of “Rescue Me” just finished on FX and I actually watched it instead of waiting for it on DVD and I can safely tell any advertiser out there right now that online advertising DOES WORK.
As I was busily getting the latest news stories written with the audio commentary for the Primeval DVD playing in the background I had to shoot over to IMDb for some kind of information of which I can’t remember right now and they had a HUGE banner playing telling me “Rescue Me” season four was premiering tonight at 10 PM… it was 9:56 so I turned off the commentary (thank God!) and clicked on over to FX and soaked it all in.
Was it any good? Truth be told I am pissed I can’t click my DVD on over to the next episode. I have been spoiled lately, but I am also realizing that it is nice to join the rest of the world and watch a TV show when it airs so I can discuss it the next day, that hasn’t happened in a while.
As for the episode itself it did have some good bits such as Franco talking to Richard about him wanting to get laid and he found a woman with Down Syndrome, partially deaf and in a wheelchair at “the center” who has “the sweetest ass”. I know what you are thinking, Franco thought it too, Richard has the answer though, “They stand her up sometimes.”
Also Tommy’s conversation with his daughter Colleen about her new relationship with a 26-year-old rock band lead singer, her use of drugs, drinking alcohol and having sex in the car before coming home. He then gets a bit befuddled when he finds out Janet already knows and says to him, “It’s good pot too, not the cheap shit we used to get.” That made me laugh. It also made me laugh when their younger daughter walks in and not only asks “What is a sex bomb?” but also says the smell of Colleen’s vomit reminds her of Christmas. “It’s not Christmas honey,” says Tommy.
Of course a lot of the episode was dedicated to the season three finale and the fire at the beach house Sheila started and almost killed Tommy. Meanwhile Kenny is still banging a nun and Garrity is married to Tommy’s sister and finds her porn stash and agrees to watch it with her. “What’s the pepper shaker for?” he asks… and I laugh again.
I guess to answer my question on whether it was any good, I would say yes, but I am not sure if I will continue to watch or wait for the DVD since I don’t want to ruin my DVD review fun, but who knows.
As for the rest of the night, it was Warner Bros. special preview night and we had commercial breaks filled with the theatrical trailers for such movies as No Reservations (which actually might be decent) and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
But that wasn’t the best part…
Just today someone asked me when the fifth season of “nip/tuck” was going to air. I didn’t have the answer, but tonight we got a teaser and it looks like McNamara/Troy is moving to Hollywood! Something I did not know, but here is the proof in YouTube form:
My only question here is whether this means the show is getting a name change or if the absence of mentioning the name of the show is just a hint for hardcore fans. Either way the move to Hollywood sounds good to me and I am hoping they leave that Michael Jackson clone of a son in Florida.
What is known about the fifth season though is that Bradley Cooper will be in about five episodes and Ryan Murphy is writing in a role for Madonna. Yeah, Murphy is back for the reported cool price of $15 million. Not too shabby.
However, back to “Rescue Me,” there is a special preview of next week’s episode online now, check it out below:
Did you watch? If so what did you think? Also, what do you think of “nip/tuck” moving to Hollywood?
For my thoughts on the first three seasons of “Rescue Me” you can get the DVD reviews here: one, two and three.
