‘Castlevania’ Lands a Director

Add this to the “I couldn’t care less” pile for me, but Castlevania, the film adaptation of the once-popular Konami game, has found a director in Sylvian White (Stomp the Yard).

Yippee.

If you think I’m unfairly dumping on this project sight unseen let me remind you of something first: the screenplay is written by Paul W.S. Anderson. He of Alien vs. Predator. He of Soldier. Paul was kind enough to step away from the project so that he could move on to ruin the Spy Hunter movie that has been in pre-production for ages (previously with John Woo).

As far as story goes it all begins as a Transylvanian knight leads his men into a gothic castle to seek refuge from the Turkish army. The knights soon discover the castle is controlled by the original vampire. The script sets up a generational clash between Vlad the Impaler and the Belmont family, a clan that unleashed the original vampire and battles to defeat him.

You may think I am bashing, but it doesn’t help that I wasn’t a huge Castlevania fan growing up. I know I’m in the minority in my gaming age group but that’s just what it is. I was more of a Ninja Gaiden fan, what can I say? You can read the entire Variety article right here.
