I have seen a couple of early reviews on Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and it looks like it is going to be another one of those films I don’t hate, but I don’t love either. Films like that are fine with me, but the reviews are a bitch to write… luckily I have Laremy for that.
However, it seems Fox may have some extra good thoughts about the film and expects audiences to like the silver one as the LA Times is reporting that Fox has already put a feature spinoff into development that will star the enigmatic Surfer, with J. Michael Straczynski currently crafting the screenplay.
Fox shouldn’t have any reason not to expect good things from the sequel considering it looks very similar to the first flick which grossed $329 million worldwide thanks to its appeal to younger audiences and the sequel has already earned a PG rating so kiddies enjoy.
But, for those of you, like me, craving grittier comic book stories word is that the new Surfer franchise will be taken in a darker direction to attract the slightly older demographic of its X-Men films.
Oh, as for that Thor news I mentioned in the headline, the LA Times article finishes by saying that a feature adaptation of Thor is also in development with a Mark Protosevich screenplay and Layer Cake‘s Matthew Vaughn reportedly negotiating to direct.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer hits theaters this Friday.
