After hearing that the third season of “Boston Legal” was getting even worse than the second season became I was beginning to wonder if a fourth season would happen, but it is going to happen and it was announced today by ABC that John Larroquette was going to be joining the cast. However, there is also a bit of negative news as well as we learn that Christian Clemenson, who portrays Jerry “Hands” Espenson, will be joining the series as a cast regular.
“Hands” was one of the problems with the second season and from what I have heard his growing list of things to do in the third season along with an overwhelming amount of Betty White is what the made the show start to decline and according to RopeofSilicon writer Laremy Legel it became “unwatchable.” Since I wait for this show on DVD I will decide once the third season is released, but I am hoping it isn’t as bad as I have heard and that it will get better.
Oddly enough, “Boston Legal” is a spin-off of the hit show “The Practice” (first season DVD review here) and Larroquette actually had a role on “The Practice” as Joey Heric, a gay man who in the first season gets off for killing a man. However, on “Boston Legal” he won’t be playing the same man, instead he will be joining as a senior partner from the New York offices of Crane Poole & Schmidt who transfers to the Boston office.
Tara Summers (“Dirt”) also comes on board as a young associate of the Boston offices.
Production on fourth season episodes begins on June 27.
