Washington Dropped from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

I have not watched “Grey’s Anatomy” since I reviewed the first season DVD set, but you would be hard pressed to miss the goings on with Isaiah Washington who plays Dr. Preston Burke on the television show. Washington drew fire after using an anti-gay epithet backstage at the Golden Globe Awards in January while denying he’d used it previously on the set against cast mate T.R. Knight. The result of such language seems to have lost him his job.

It was announced today via the Associated Press that Washington’s contract will not be renewed for the fourth season of the hit television show, series producer ABC Television Studios said Thursday.

Upon hearing the word Washington offered up a quote via his publicist saying, “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore.” The comment is an obvious throwback to the 1976 film Network. However its true meaning in this case is a little vague. Especially when considering its origin.

Washington has been under attack ever since he made the comments as Knight has shown up on such shows as “Ellen” and gay rights groups and co-star Katherine Heigl publicly denounced the actor.

I can’t blame the producers for not bringing this ass back. He reportedly tried to seek therapy for his issue, but there is no therapy that cures what he’s got and that is a case of ass-hole-itis. That disease can prove fatal in some regions.

So “Grey’s” is now one doctor less and I am sure the cast is breathing a sigh of relief considering tension on set had to be at an all-time high.
