John McTiernan directed Predator, Die Hard and The Hunt for Red October, but that only takes us to 1990. The last film he directed was the shitty thriller Basic so I am wondering if he still has the chops even if his 1999 The Thomas Crown Affair was one hell of a movie. So, when I hear he is set to direct a new Las Vegas action thriller called High Stakes I hold my breath.
Word is that the story revolves around two friends who find themselves in over their heads when they realize they are the living collateral of a high-stakes bet.
Ronnie Christensen, who wrote the upcoming drama Passengers, penned the script and filming is scheduled to begin in the fall in Shreveport, La., and Las Vegas.
Based on his history it is worth it to give McTiernan a chance, I hope he still has it.
