David Fincher Directing ‘Wolverine’?

Ha, sorry, I had to give you some amount of hope before crashing this news onto you X-Men fans. Word out of IESB, who seem to have cameras in Fox’s offices, is that not David Fincher but D.J. Caruso is in talks to direct the X-Men spin-off Wolverine. Yeah, D.J. Caruso, the man that brought the world Taking Lives and Two for the Money. I guess people are pointing at Disturbia as a major hit for the helmer since it cost about $20 million to make and raked in more than $76 million at the box, but Disturbia wasn’t all that good and had it had just a small amount of competition I don’t think it would have done nearly as well.

However, in my book the back-up helmer they are eyeing is a better choice. IESB reports that to be Len Wiseman who just finished with Live Free or Die Hard and also helmed the Underworld movies. I personally enjoy the Underworld films and even if you don’t like them you you have to admit the guy has a serious eye for mood and atmosphere even if you don’t like the stories the films tell.

So, unfortunately it won’t be Fincher to take the helm on the spin-off but I had to dream for a second because if Caruso gets his hands on it I have a feeling it will be even more bubble gum than Ratner’s X3.
