Another Round at Lionsgate for Tyler Perry

I can only thank God that Tyler Perry‘s “House of Payne” has finally aired and I won’t have to suffer through any more previews now that the NBA Playoffs move to ABC for the Finals, along with Charles Barkley’s endless T-Mobile commercials and all those “Payne” previews I was going insane. However, this still leaves me wondering when the world is going to get tired of Tyler Perry.

In the past two years Perry has unleashed two movies in theaters, two movies on DVD and a third theatrical release is coming this year, and now this “House of Payne”, which looks absolutely miserable by the way, debuted on TV earlier today. On top of this Variety now gives us word that yet another one of Perry’s plays will be adapted for the bigscreen, this time it is “Meet the Browns” and again it is for Lionsgate.

This time around the story is about a single mother who rediscovers the joys of family and the possibility of second chances when meeting the fun-loving family of her father, whom she never knew. It is said to be much in the same vein as Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Madea’s Family Reunion.

The difference in this story compared to the stage version is that good ol’ Madea will be there. Yay!

Lionsgate is eying an early 2008 release for Meet the Browns, which will be shot at the Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. Later this year on November 16 Lionsgate will release Perry’s Why Did I Get Married?.
