More Casting News on ‘Watchmen’

Big scoop for Watchmen fans. AICN scored some interesting regarding the possible casting going on with Zach Snyder’s (300) adaptation of the Allan Moore graphic novel. First up, who will play the smaller but incredibly important role of Ozymandias? Personally, I still like the first idea Snyder was going with in Tom Cruise. It’s a shame it didn’t work out. But like I mentioned back in March, Brad Pitt or Jude Law would be nice fillers. Well, rumor is Law will done the cape and tights of the superhero otherwise known as Adrien Veidt.

Then there’s Dr. Manhattan, the most super yet most stoic of all the superheroes in Watchmen … Keanu Reeves. I honestly hadn’t thought much about who should play Manhattan because of the nature of the part but that piece of casting might actually work. For some reason I was thinking more of a Ralph Fiennes for the role, if only because I have a harder time seeing Reeves play a physicist. But the demeanor is there.

Finally, who to play (the second) Night Owl? The role equates to what is the closest thing to a lead in the story so obviously the casting is important. If Patrick Wilson – an actor I never considered before – really is cast, it tells me that Zack Snyder knows exactly what he’s doing.

This is very encouraging news all around. Big kudos to AICN for this scoop.
