Another ‘Austin Powers’ Movie? Really?

The last time the Mike Myers character Austin Powers was on screen it was 2002 in Austin Powers in Goldmember. In an article over at MTV they begin this bit of news saying, “For five long years, ‘Austin Powers’ fans have been wondering when they’ll see the shagadelic super-spy’s next adventure.” I have got to call bullshit on that sentence. I don’t think anyone not in an insane asylum has been wondering when ” the shagadelic super-spy” would be back on the big screen.

Actually, Laremy brought this information to my attention last night while I suffered through Georgia Rule, but when he told me I didn’t really believe it. I didn’t think there was any way they would try to bring back a character that was good the first time we saw him in the ’90s but so obviously was not carrying over well into the 2000s.

Well, I guess I was wrong on this one as he tells MTV, “We’re developing a fourth [movie], entirely from Dr. Evil’s point of view… That is part of what I’ve been doing in the last little while.”

Hmmm, so does this mean it will not be an Austin Powers movie? It has to be right? I mean, if it isn’t then Dr. Evil wins and … Ahhhhh, maybe this is the end of the franchise and Dr. Evil will win and the world will be destroyed by sharks with frickin’ laser beams on their heads! How about you just make that the trailer and call it good? No need for a movie, just the trailer will do fellas.

The Austin Powers films are just a progression of examples of someone running out of funny ideas. Fat Bastard is a prime example of this, and one Norbit would have done well to learn from. We really don’t need to see another movie with Mini Me trying to provide laughs because he is short, I get it already, he is short. Thanks.
