I have no idea how to talk about this little bit of news other than to just tell you the facts. Cillian Murphy, Sienna Miller, Max Minghella and Emma Booth will star in Hippie Hippie Shake for director Beeban Kidron and Universal Pictures with Working Title.
The film was adapted by Lee Hall based on “Hippie Hippie Shake: The Dreams, the Trips, the Trials, the Love-ins, the Screw Ups: The Sixties,” a memoir by Richard Neville (to be played by Murphy). The film will use a famous obscenity trial involving the Australian satirical magazine Oz as a metaphor for a journey through the swinging ’60s in London.
Variety goes on to say that Oz was transplanted to London, where Neville and his cohorts became the defendants in the longest obscenity trial in English legal historyafter a sexually explicit issue aroused the ire of the Obscene Publications Squad. The trial ended with the defendants sentenced to hard labor, but an appeal absolved them, with the provision that they stop publishing the magazine.
