Goyer Moves from ‘Flash’ to ‘Arrow’

I almost reported on this news yesterday when it was first announced in Wizard Magazine but I had an opinion on it and didn’t want to rush through the piece. Luckily, I now have a bit of time and am ready to chat for a second about it.

First, the news. Word is that David Goyer is ready to produce, yes only produce, a film called Super Max for Warner Bros. based on the DC Comics’ superhero the Green Arrow. Apparently it will begin with the Green Arrow incarcerated in a special prison and stripped of his powers. The twist of fate is that the Green Arrow’s true identity is revealed and he ultimately must band together on an escape attempt with the very villains he’s previously imprisoned.

The story is based on an original idea by Justin Marks, who is set to pen the script.

All the articles going around were talking about Goyer this, and Goyer that, and how after dropping out of working on The Flash this was the next big thing. However, it seems odd to me that Warner Bros. would look to fund a movie about a superhero that isn’t exactly famous in the sense that Batman, Superman and Spider-Man are. Not only that, instead of introducing said hero to the audience and giving us an origina story this movie starts at the end of his career as Green Arrow and as just some dude in prison. Sounds to me like just a prison break movie. Why not strip the silly comic story and make something most audience members will care about. It has been a long time since a good prison break movie came out anyway, and that Fox television show “Prison Break” is an absolute embarassment.

I am sure fanboys of the world are chomping at the bit to see any new superhero on the big screen, but this is one that I don’t see working.
