Lucas Chats about ‘Indiana Jones 4’

This is such a cheap attempt at getting one extra page view out of you guys I have to apologize at the outset, but George Lucas did in fact talk about Indiana Jones IV yesterday while at the Toyota’s Pro/Celebrity Race so I am not duping you entirely. Just be thankful I am not dicking you into page views writing articles about David Krumholtz like some other sites out there.

First off, Lucas was broached with the subject of Harrison Ford‘s age (64) and how that is going to play in the action sequences in the new film. He told USA Today, “He’s not running in any of the movies… He’s either on a horse or driving a car or a motorcycle. And he’ll play his age in this movie with what’s appropriate. The chases are more suspenseful than speedy. Like the rolling ball in the first film — it’s not that he’s running that fast, it’s that there’s a giant ball coming at him. And he will get beat up, which is a tradition for us.”

As for Sean Connery‘s return as Indy’s father he says they are still trying, which tells me one of two things; 1) The script isn’t good enough for Connery to bite, 2) Connery already bit and they are trying to keep it under wraps until the first trailer hits, at which time they also hope to reveal the actual title of the film.

As for casting Cate Blanchett as Indy’s leading lady in the fourth film Lucas said, “That’s who my director (Steven Spielberg) wanted, and I always bow to the wishes of my director… I approved it because she seemed like a good idea. When I met her at the Academy Awards, I told her, ‘Hey, you work for me now!'”

Indiana Jones IV is set to begin production in June in Los Angeles and at top-secret locations around the world. Paramount will release the film day-and-date worldwide May 22, 2008, with a handful of territories opening the following day.
