Box-Office Wrap-Up: Mar. 30 – Mar. 1

A dandy prediction at the first spot, but the bottom slots were a little rough. Let’s Oracle until we’re soracle.
#1 movie predicted correctly: Eight Weeks In A Row
Now that’s accuracy. I look for this to do well next weekend (no competition) but it’s never going to hit the levels of Will’s previous work. We need a new trick out of you bud.
Result: $33.0 million (My rank: #1, $.9m off)
I’m glad to see that the people responded, though my prediction was a bit heavy. Mark my words, in two weekends this passes Blades of Glory.
Result: $25.0 million (My rank: #2, $5.4m off)
3. 300
I heard Zack Snyder on the radio but they wouldn’t let him speak. It was a morning show where sound effects were more important than substance. Luckily B-Luv has interviewed him twice, and I think he let him speak both times.
Result: $11.1 million (My rank: #4, $.3m off)
4. TMNT
A 62.2 percent drop-off means that Meet the Robinsons hit this one where it lived. This has to put the sequel in jeopardy right? It got nuked.
Result: $9.1 million (My rank: #3, $2.8m off)
The people like Wild Hogs. There’s not another verdict. That means it’s a good movie, at least by the definition of democracy.
Result: $8.3 million (My rank: #6, $1.4m off)
Ready for fun with math? The budget here was $61m. It’s made $27m. $13.5m of that goes to the studios. So they’re $47m short right now. Even with the DVD and a few more weeks of box office this looks like a financial loser. Sad story, but Paramount can just lay off a few admin assistants if need be.
Result: $8.0 million (My rank: #5, $.1m off)
Premonition, on the other hand, is a financial winner. At this very moment it has made its budget back, all the rest is gravy. The trick is to not spend any money. Then the little you make back is more.
Result: $5.1 million (My rank: #10, $1.0m off)
The number three rated kid’s film in America! One out of every 600 people saw this, try and go find one now. Call it an Easter Egg hunt.
Result: $4.0 million (My rank: #9, $.4m off)
Another financial winner, even with the nasty 60 percent drop. Lure the suckers week one, that’s the only method in town.
Result: $3.9 million (My rank: #8, $.8m off)
How about this result? I guess it wasn’t so much that people wanted to see Reign Over Me, it was more like people didn’t want to see The Lookout. Either way I’m happy, one was good, one was bad. The good one won.
Result: $3.7 million (My rank: Not Ranked)
