It was an epic weekend for an almost epic movie. I say “almost” epic because the film (300) isn’t as long as Braveheart or as grand as Gladiator. It is a giant financial success though, it’s well on track to catch Gladiator‘s $185m and it will pass Braveheart‘s $75m on Monday.
#1 movie predicted correctly: Five Weeks In A Row
1. 300
That’s a lot of clams, a new record. It didn’t even matter that Scrat was back for Ice Age 2, 300 worked it over like a speed bag.

2. Wild Hogs
A very good result for Wild Hogs too. Perhaps it was overflow from 300? Or it could have been all those crazed Tim Allen fans finally chiming in.
Result: $28.0 million (My rank: #2, $5.5m off)
Here we are back in sane numbers land. I don’t know much about this title because children scare me.
Result: $6.8 million (My rank: #4, $.7m off)
4. Ghost Rider
Wow, I totally missed putting this in my spreadsheet. I don’t know if that was some sort of protest or what, but it stands at $104m total right now so clearly my protestations are pointless. Next week I’ll put you in there Ghostey, promise.

5. Zodiac
They never found the Zodiac killer. I don’t want you to lose sleep over it, I’m just saying. He could be out there. Outside your bedroom perhaps.

$30m and rising slow. Did the Virginia Madsen dollars split themselves between this and Astro Farmer? No, of course not, the issue was no one wanted to see either of them.

7. Norbit
I already ripped Norbit once this week and I think I’m out of steam. I’m off to put on a fat suit.

I still think you should see it. It’s funny. Hugh Grant could keep making romantic comedies until the end of time and I’d probably see them.

9. Breach
How did I have three not ranked titles on my board this weekend? That’s crappy oracling. With Breach they are going to crack the mighty $30m marker so they’ve got to be pleased.

The movie Paycheck with Ben Affleck just started in my living room. John Woo and Ben Affleck? Why did this not work? Oh, I see, he’s playing a super smart engineer. Yikes. Next week, same time, same channel. Go noles!
