I Know Why ‘Spidey 3’ Will be Tobey’s Last… I Think

Everyone is reporting on the tiny blurb printed in an article over at the Courier Mail in which Tobey Maguire was speaking about Spider-Man 3 and how he believes it will be his last. Here is the quote:

“To me it seems like this is a natural point for the team to break up because we have a lot of story conclusions that were going along for the main characters for the first two movies and we kind of tie almost everything up for the third movie,” he says.

“It feels like a trilogy to me and it feels like the end.”

Trilogy or not I can only assume Tobey does not want to be known as Spider-Man for the rest of his career. I am sure when he and Kirsten Dunst came out on Oscar night to present Best Screenplay it wasn’t all that helpful that they were playing the Spider-Man theme music behind him.

Tobey gave a great performance in Seabiscuit and was one of the only good things about The Good German as he went totally against type and really scared the shit out of you.

The Spider-Man franchise has lucked out and looks like it is going to have a very successful and well received trilogy on its hands unlike such comic franchises as X-Men and the first go around at Batman. Tobey is making the right decision getting out while things are good, always leave ’em wanting more.
