Casting Bits: March 1, 2007

Joshua Jackson is joining Rachael Taylor in Shutter a psychological thriller which begins shooting March 12 in Tokyo. The film will be directed by Masayuki Ochiai and centers on a young American couple (Jackson and Taylor) on their honeymoon in Tokyo, who begin seeing ghostly images in their photos as well as around them. Also joining the cast are David Denman (“The Office”), James Kyson Lee (“Heroes”) and John Hensley (“Nip/Tuck”). 20th Century Fox will distribute what already sounds like a direct-to-video release. French directors Michel Gondry and Leos Carax and South Korean helmer Bong Joon-ho are in negotiations to write and direct a segment of the tentatively titled Tokyo, a triptych feature telling three separate tales of the city. Bong is tentatively set to begin filming his segment in July or August, with the other shoots expected to happen at about the same time. According to a source close to the project, the filmmakers will be given liberal access to city locations in return for the Tokyo-centric subject matter. [The Hollywood Reporter]


Lasse Hallstrom is set to direct Sammy at Columbia Pictures. The picture was penned by Delia Ephron and tells the story of a woman who can sense what animals are thinking meets a man who claims to have the same relationship with dead people. [The Hollywood Reporter]


Maura Tierney will play the love interest to Woody Harrelson’s character in New Line’s Semi-Pro, which also stars Will Ferrell. [Variety]
