Brody, Kikuchi and Weisz Join Johnson’s ‘Brothers Bloom’

A lot of people liked Brick, but I just couldn’t get passed the kids playing mobsters element. I thought the film took itself a little too seriously. However, it was a nice risk and one that obviously put writer-director Rian Johnson in the eye of Hollywood and with the line-up for his next pic already containing two Oscar winners and one Oscar nominee I would say he is off to a great start on film number two.

That second film would by The Brothers Bloom in which Johnson has already cast Oscar winners Adrien Brody and Rachel Weisz along with Oscar nominee Rinko Kikuchi (Babel). The pic will find Brody playing Bloom, the younger brother in a veteran team of con men who falls for a mysterious millionaire (Weisz) who turns the tables on them as they take on one last job after Brody threatens to quit the family business. Kikuchi will play the brothers’ sexy and secretive accomplice.

Producer Jim Stern of Endgame Entertainment compared the film to 1973 Redford/Newman starrer The Sting, a film that went on to win 7 Oscars. Hope at this moment is to have the film ready to show off at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival with production scheduled to begin March 19 in 12 countries in Europe, Scandinavia and Asia.
