Jigsaw is Boogeyman Too

I really don’t see how anyone could have liked the predictably stupid Saw III but as long as audiences continue to support the opening weekend for the franchise it seems it might attempt to reach Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street status. However, *SPOILER ALERT* with Tobin Bell no longer needed in the franchise as Jigsaw is now dead, dead, dead… he needs work, and why not another low-rent horror as he will take on the lead role in Boogeyman 2, a sequel to the 2005 poor performer which managed $46 million at the box.

Word out of Fangoria is that Jeff Betancourt will direct the sequel based on a script by Brian Sieve for Ghost House Pictures. Rob Tapert of Ghost House told the site, “Brian’s script is filled with scenes of outrageous terror that will redefine the BOOGEYMAN franchise. We are thrilled to introduce Jeff’s vision for this to the horror crowd.” I guess it isn’t too hard to redefine a franchise that sucked from the beginning, in fact I would hope it would be redefined.

Bell joins other no-name actors Danielle Savre, David Gallagher, Michael Graziadei and Mae Whitman, Johnny Simmons, Matthew Cohen and Chrissy Griffith in the picture, which recently began production in LA. Here is the storyline from Fangoria:

In this entry, freaky and frightening results befall a young woman’s plan to rid her phobia of the boogeyman by checking into a mental health facility. Raimi and Tapert are swapping hats with Gary Bryman and Steven Hein this time, with the former pair serving as executive producers and the latter sharing producing credit (the roles were reversed on the first film).

Who knows if this one will hit theaters or be a DTV (direct-to-video) release, my bet is on the latter.
