When Will ‘Lost’ End?

This is a seriously legitimate question and after finally seeing the second season of the hit show “Lost.” I think it is a question series producers need to answer quickly as Variety tells us that the producers behind “Lost” are actively discussing how and when to retire the hit castaway drama.

If I was in the room my answer would be, “ASAP!” Granted this means less dollars for ABC, but it really makes sure the show doesn’t get too obscure or hold out on viewers for too long. However, it doesn’t sound like it is going to be a quick end for the show as they are mulling over “several seasons” and this will be helpful in allowing the writers to decide just what exactly to do.

Producer Carlton Cuse was quoted saying, “It’s time for us to find an endpoint to the show… It’s a struggle for us, because we don’t know if we have three years, four years or more to go. If we had an endpoint, then we could figure out where everything goes.”

Three or four more years is too many in my opinion, but what do I know? I have… uh… no television shows to my credit and I will say the second season was FAR better than the first as we finally got to see some things happening.

Cuse does seem to have the right frame of mind saying, “The worst point is when a show ends and no one cares. We don’t want that to happen.” Most people don’t Cuse, so just be sure you have three to four good years and I am sure the fans will stay with you.

Final word comes when Variety says Cuse suggested the show could end once it hits 100 episodes in season five (“Lost” is currently shooting episode 62). But it’s far more likely that “Lost” would continue at least through its seventh season, when the show’s thesps’ current contracts expire.

The third season will finish in 2007, which means we are looking at “Lost” all the way through 2011. Who knows what we will be watching TV on by then… most likely iWatches.
