Box-Office Wrap-Up: Jan.12 – Jan. 14

The Oracle got stomped. I blame Germany, just in general.
#1 movie predicted correctly: Zero Weeks In A Row
I knew Drumline opened at $20m but for some reason I took an idiot pill. This makes me mad, mad, mad, angry.
Result: $22.0 million (My rank: #3, $11.4m off)
Wonderful that I nailed this exactly. That’s like finding out the bride is leaving you on your wedding day but one of her friends might be interested.
Result: $17.1 million (My rank: #1, Dead On)
This is like a 13 percent variance too, I’d give you the exact number but I’m typing on a Mac and I have no idea how to find the calculator function.
Result: $9.1 million (My rank: #3, $1.2m off)
So the wide opening didn’t help one bit. Which sort of proves that a wide opening wouldn’t have mattered in the first place. So maybe the studio had it dialed in all along.
Result: $8.1 million (My rank: #2, $4.6m off)
I hope this rides its way right out of the top ten next weekend. I’m over weak January releases.
Result: $7.1 million (My rank: #7, $1.5m off)
It feels like the buzz has subsided. I don’t hear people in the hallways talking about this any longer. In could be because I called the police on their asses.
Result: $6.4 million (My rank: #8, $2.0m off)
People just weren’t digging a film that’s been delayed more than Seattle driving on the ice. There’s a local joke, I do one a year.
Result: $6.1 million (My rank: #9, $.9m off)
People didn’t fall for the crocodile line. No wait, it was just that people didn’t care either way.
Result: $5.9 million (My rank: #5, $3.6m off)
Oh wow, what a beating. I will say that I never saw one bit of marketing on this, I think the white flag was flying early on this project. DVD here we come!
Result: $4.3 million (My rank: #6, $4.7m off)
Hey there stranger, glad to see you in the top ten, even if you messed up my little rankings. I will sacrifice if it means more people see good movies.
Result: $3.9 million (My rank: Nor Ranking, Infinity off)
