UPDATED: Wow, Bad Buzz on Zombie’s ‘Halloween’ Already?

UPDATE: Well, Rob has responded to what you will read below in a post titled “Figure it out for yourself!” Check out what he had to say below and then read how this all started.

I notice that so many people get crazy when someone you don’t even know posts an opinion about what they think HALLOWEEN will or won’t be. This is crazy. Do you really go through life influenced by the thoughts of others that easily?

Anyway, things change so much in a movie, from moment to moment, from second to second that all I can say is : see it for yourself and figure out if you like it or not. Really who gives a fuck what someone else thinks? Everybody likes different shit for differenet reasons. But deciding that you hate or love something that doesn’t even exsist yet? Well, that a little ridiculous.

Original article continues below…

I am not a raging Halloween fan like I am sure many of you are, but that is only because I don’t own a copy of the classic film. In which case, if I did I am sure I would be up in arms as well as Ain’t It Cool News has posted a severly negative review of the script for Rob Zombie’s upcoming remake of Halloween.

Here is what seems to be the most significant comment in my opinion:

Look. This is a remake, so of course I was expecting some things to change. I would have been kind of pissed if it was just a retread, but what I really find myself disappointed with is the lack of understanding Zombie is showing on why Michael Myers works. In the original film, Myers was bigger than a serial killer or a psychopath. He was evil. Unemotional. Uncaring. He was the boogeyman. Hence the ending line. His character was never even referred to in the script as Michael, but as The Shape.

When you explain away Michael, giving him modern day serial killer hellish upbringing, you take away his power. He no longer represents a myth bigger than a person, he doesn’t represent death incarnate. He’s just an average psycho in a mask. There’s nothing special to him anymore.

I was hoping that Zombie, as a professed fan of Carpenter’s film, would understand that and it’s my biggest disappointment in the script that Zombie doesn’t seem to.

Wow, if this holds true it may be the actual desimation of a horror icon!

After reading the review I popped on over to Zombie’s Official Halloween MySpace Page where he has been giving constant updates in regards to casting. I assumed this meant he would have some sort of reply since it has been about 12 hours since the script review was posted, but nothing… However, this didn’t stop fans from weighing in with some very nasty comments.

Here’s a selection:

A chance to feel the love.. Said:

Thats what made michael myers scary knowin that he was pure evil..and now we realize hes just like every other serial killer..he was bullied as a kid..abusive father figure…mom was never around..sister didnt pay attention..if thats the real script..then man you fucked up

Quake Beneath Me Said:

Hahaha… Michaels a faggot, Laurie a ” Boo “… and the Shape speaks. So glad to hear Mr. Zombie is not letting me down and giving us exactly what I predicted since this steaming pile of shit was annonced. ROB ZOMBIE’S HALLOWEEN: THE NIGHT HE CAME HOME TO THE TRAILER. Way to go… yet another worthless piece of trashy, rockabilly bullshit celluloid from the Director that brought us 2 films I shit through.

976-EVIL Said:

MYERS DOES NOT TALK! You are taking away from the creepiness factor that IS Myers. I will boycott this piece of shit travesty!

Suffice to say, people are a bit upset… Also, one of the poster’s pointed out that the page previously read “8.31.2007” as a release date, which has now been changed to “COMING SOON.” Who knows, perhaps a rewrite has already been commissioned.

As to whether or not Ain’t It Cool got an early script or what the complete story is I have no real clue. We can only wait and see.
