The Casting Couch: Sept. 1, 2006

I don’t even really think this issue of The Casting Couch is absolutely necessary considering the lack of “real” info I am giving you, but it does offer the chance to post the picture you see above. That is a pic of Gemma Ward, who is apparently a supermodel and not a starved alien. The Hollywood Reporter tells us that Ward will make her feature debut opposite Liv Tyler in Rogue Pictures’ suspense thriller The Strangers. Bryan Bertino is directing from his own script as the film tells the story of a couple in a remote suburban house who are targeted by three masked strangers. Tyler is the female half of the couple, and no, Ward will not be playing a stick figure, she is one of the masked strangers (BOO! I am in a scary mask!). Production begins in the fall with an eye toward an October 2007 release. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Our second story comes from Variety bringing word that Angela Betts (who?) will star in the horror flick Scar for director Jed Weintrob (who?) with production begining October 3 in Calgary. The story follows a young woman who returns to her small hometown for her niece’s high-school graduation. In town she is still remembered as the sole survivor of a serial killer’s spree and as the person who managed to kill the murderer. Upon her arrival, the killings resume. [Variety]

The only other bit of casting info tells us that Emily Mortimer will star opposite Ryan Gosling in Lars and the Real Girl for director Craig Gillespie. The story is about a lonely, delusional young man who buys a life-size sex doll on the Internet and falls in love with her, telling people it’s his girlfriend. His brother and sister-in-law step in to help him with his delusion. [Variety]
