Sony Pictures is going full steam ahead with their animation wing as they have set Hotel Transylvania as their third film following Open Season (Sept. 29) and Surf’s Up (Summer 2007).
Anthony Stacchi and David Feiss, co-director and head of story, respectively, on Open Season, will helm Transylvania while Don Rhymer (Big Momma’s House) will pen the script.
The film is about a group of classic monsters including Frankenstein, the Mummy, Dracula and the Werewolf who are hiding out in a hotel on the outskirts of Transylvania now that 21st century technology has seemingly made them irrelevant.
This move, one month before the first release for Sony Pictures Animation, is certainly a good sign for the new division.
Transylvania is eyeing a 2009 release, which means, as of now, the studio doesn’t have a 2008 release although the article does hint at the idea that there is a project in advanced development that could possibly bow that year.
