Zhang Set for Trio of Films for the Weinsteins

The Weinsteins never fail to provide for interesting news with every announcement as today we get word that they have worked out a deal with Ziyi Zhang to star in three upcoming tales for The Weinstein Co.

The first pic is a live-action version of Mulan, the second is a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 pic The Seven Samurai and details on the third were not revealed.

Mulan is scripted by Wang Hui-ling (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon). The story draws on a Chinese folk tale of a female resistance fighter who disguises herself as her father to take his place in battle. The pic is set up as one of the debut pictures out of the new Meridian Pictures stable being established by Chinese multi-millionaire David Dong.
